MISSION STATEMENT

In an environment of trust and acceptance, we will welcome parents and children and help them prepare for baptism. We will teach and discuss an understanding of the Sacrament of Baptism.

We will warmly greet and assist the baptismal couple and child on the day of the Christening, welcoming them, and their family and friends into the community of Holy Family Catholic Community. We will assist the presider in the Rite of Baptism.

TRAINING PROGRAMS

The baptism ministry is comprised of specially trained hospitality ministers and facilitator couples, in addition to the creative sewing ministry [link to site].

The training program exists to familiarize facilitator trainee couples with the program and empower them to facilitate a meeting of the baptismal couples (session II). A baptism manual, handouts, godparent certificate and other visual aids are provided.

The training program helps to familiarize hospitality trainees to the program, instruct them on procedures of the ceremony, and a model of hospitality.

MINISTRY GOALS

•  Baptism Facilitator Couple goals are:

Establish an environment and ambience that enables Baptismal couples to feel comfortable to express their faith.

Facilitate a discussion of faith and give witness to ones’ own faith using concrete examples from the family.

Get couples to look at their personal faith life and at their relationship with God and the Church, as well as to examine their own values.

Teach couples the Catholic understanding of Baptism.

Help parents realize they are the primary teachers and role models for their child. Baptism cannot give the child something the parents don’t have.

Form relationships between the couples who are asking for Baptism for their child and other couples, and then with the parish through these relationships.

Give the parents a good experience of Church and of Holy Family.

•  Baptism Hospitality goals are:

Assist with all baptisms on a rotating basis.

Be adequately trained and comfortable with greeting families and supporting priest or deacon.

Be an example of love and care for families who are baptizing.

Build community and relationship with parents and families who are having a child baptized.

Help to make baptism a joyful, happy event giving families a good experience of Church and Holy Family.

Knowledgeable of baptismal checklist.
