THE JOURNEY TO EUCHARIST

A special sacrament track is offered for children preparing to receive their First Eucharist
(typically in 2nd grade). These are family sessions
and are attended by parent(s) and child.

2007-2008 Eucharist Prep Schedule

Outline of the Process
The family sessions are designed to supplement what children will be doing in our Family FAITH Programs:  Gathered at Table, Faith Alive, Faith Clusters and
Faith Too
programs. In the peer group gatherings children learn about the upcoming Sunday gospel, plus work out of a book titled "We Believe" which focuses on the
parts of the Mass.  The family book "The Gift of Eucharist" will be distributed at one of the preparation sessions.  The children will be working on this book at the preparation sessions.

Setting Aside Family Time
The children in Family FAITH have regular "take home" work which may be used
during this family time.  Also included each week in the bulletin is the Question
of the Week which may be done at home.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation
Children will be provided with catechesis on the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
As part of the First Eucharist Faith-IN, children and family members present
will experience the Sacrament in a prayer service as part of that day.
Additional experiences will be available during the 3rd and 4th grade years.

Children participating at Sunday Eucharist
We strongly encourage your family to regularly attend Sunday Eucharist.
This will help a child and a family understand this experience as central
in our understanding of who we are as Christians.

Coming up to the Eucharist Minister with arms crossed
First Eucharist candidates are encouraged to come forward at Communion time
to the Eucharistic Ministers (both the bread and cup) with the arms crossed
on their chests.  This will be a sign to the minister that the child is preparing
for First Eucharist and they will receive a blessing.

Children's Liturgy of the Word
Children preparing for Eucharist are encouraged to participate in the
Children's Liturgy Word experiences at the 4:30pm, 9am and 11am Masses.

Check out the Holy Family Bookstore for other family books, information
on veils, prayers and other articles to assist in the celebration of First Eucharist.
