Adding a New Page
New Pages is a two-step process. First, create the new page. Then, add a link to your new page.
- File -> New.
- Select the plain template. This contains navigation at the top and left.
- You’ll also be prompted to add a page title. Page titles may contain any type of character. Search engines use titles to find pages, so having a descriptive page title is a good idea.
Note: If you need to correct a page title, it can be re-entered by selecting Format-->Page properties)

- Enter your content (see below for formatting instructions) Be sure to use the H1 style to format the heading for the page. Also, enter the name of the leadership community in the area that shows "Leadership name"
- Return to the page that will be linked to this new page.

- Click the Edit button to edit this page.
- Enter text describing the new page. Select the text.
- While the text is selected, click the Link button at the top (looks like a chain link), then click Drafts and Recent Pages...

- Select your new page.

- Publish your pages.
- You’ll be prompted give your new page a file name. File names should follow these rules:
Start with an alpha character.
- Contain only alpha, numeric, hyphens, or underscores in the file name.
- Contain no spaces.
- Contain no capitalized letters.
- Keep the file name as short as possible. Under 20 would be a good idea.
IE limits you to 255 characters, but counts the file path against that
limit. This means that if you had a path with a length of 55 characters, the
maximum length of the file name that you could choose to upload would be 200
characters.
Copying and Pasting
- Select the text from your source,
- Copy (Ctrl + C or Edit -> Copy)
- Place the insertion point on where you want the text on your new page.
- Paste (Ctrl + V or Edit -> Paste Text)
Caution
Edit-->Paste will paste the format along with the text. Edit --> Paste Text will paste only the text, making it much easier to apply the styles.
For consistency, it’s best to use the styles when formatting text. Just select the text, then select the style from the style list. |
Formatting
- Instead of using bold, center, font, etc to format a page, use the styles so the pages look consistent.

Exit
Before exiting Contribute, be sure that only your home page is listed under “pages.” Otherwise, other people will be locked out of editing those pages. For example, if you were connected to the Adult Faith Formation folder, only the Adult Faith Formation home page should be listed, also, that page should be published.
To accomplish this, publish all your drafts before exiting Contribute. As you publish, all pages but your home page are removed from the pages list.
