LENTEN SOCIAL JUSTICE PROJECT
"Stand By Me"
Strengthening the Bonds of Community
40 days of reflection and awareness of homelessness, hunger and poverty
Every year for Lent, Holy Family challenges its parishioners to raise awareness about the issues facing our brothers and sisters living in poverty. Through prayer, fasting and sacrificial giving, we can make a difference! We encourage all to participate in at least one Call to Action.
CALL TO ACTION SUGGESTIONS:
Hunger
- Eat a light dinner (such as soup only) one night per week in solidarity with the poor
- Purchase soup mix ($5) at Holy Family benefitting Habitat at the Social Justice table in the narthex
- Complete a postcard asking your legislators to support nutrition assistance programs
Housing
- Volunteer (16yrs and older) to work at the Elgin Habitat for Humanity home. Sign up at www.springoflifehabitat.org Click on the Volunteer tab
- Offer to provide lunch for Habitat workers. Sign up at www.springoflifehabitat.org (volunteer tab)
- Make a donation (check made out to Holy Family Parish, notation “Stand By Me”) to purchase supplies such as paint, drywall, nails, tools, cabinets and paint brushes
Click on Stand By Me to obtain the Lenten Social Justice flyer to make a pledge to participate in at least one call to action to remain in solidarity with our brothers and sisters living in poverty.
