Home Pastoral Care and Support

Nursing Homes

Ministers of Care bring Eucharist and provide Word and Communion services at area Nursing Homes on a schedule of rotating Sundays. (Rosewood Convalescent Center in Inverness, Alden Estates in Barrington, Sunrise Senior Care at Golf and Barrington and Alden Poplar Creek on the campus of St. Alexius Hospital.) Ministers also assist with Masses at Rosewood Nursing Home where anointing of the sick is administered. Commitment is approximately twice monthly. Training required (see below).

Training for all Ministers of Care is done at the Deanery level in September-October. Interviews for this ministry are scheduled in the summer and training classes typically run for six consecutive Mondays or Tuesdays.  Meetings are rotated among the various parishes in the Deanery. Please watch the Bulletin for training announcements concerning time and location for the fall 2009 series. If you think you may be interested in this ministry, but would like to know more about the “nuts and bolts” of its operation, please call the Pastoral Care office and we can arrange for you to “shadow” a Minister of Care at a hospital or nursing home. Ministers of Care are also called on to assist with Community Masses when the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is administered. These typically take place semi-annually.
