A catechist is a teacher of faith for the youth ministries of HF. Catechists are essential and critical for the success of the many ministries for youth at HF and we are blessed to have so many wonderfully dedicated catechists for both Ignite (JH grades 7 and 8) and our FLAME program for high school teens. A catechist usually facilitates a small group of teens, usually around 12. Our Ignite and FLAME groups gather at the 4:00 p.m. teen-ministered liturgy and then meet in small groups from 5:15-7:00 p.m.

Our catechists also assist the small group with Christian service, both at HF and in the wider community. Our Ignite classes perform service in the local area, while our FLAME classes often travel to Chicago to serve the marginalized.
Training and formation is provided for all catechists. We need approximately 50 catechists each year with many co-teaching a class to share the load. We also have peer ministers who are older, confirmed teens that help facilitate the group. It is an awesome intergenerational experience that deepens the faith of all involved.
We also meet one Sunday a month after class from 7:15-7:45 in the chapel to brainstorm, share ideas and give feedback on lessons. Dates to be determined.

There are also many opportunities for our catechists to further their faith formation by attending Bible Journey, Bible Study, and Catholic Scripture Study. Holy Family also offers Catechist Formation and Certification.
