Holy Family's Youth Ministries offer several opportunities that attempt to address the needs of young people of all ages from junior high through high school. Our Mission is to cultivate Catholic disciples of Jesus Christ by welcoming and involving teens into the Holy Family faith community, nurturing their spiritual growth, and challenging and empowering them to live Christ's Mission. If you would like more information on stewardship opportunities, or if you have an idea of your own, please contact Paul McMahon.
Celebrating the Spirit (Confirmation Preparation Process) - This component of our Youth Ministries process is for teens that have made the decision to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. It is our expectation that teens entering into this process will be attending their second year of FLAME. Some components of Celebrating the Spirit are: Pizza with Fr. Pat, Teen/Sponsor Dinner, and a Confirmation retreat.
Several Adults are needed to mail invitations, coordinate hospitality for various parent and teen events throughout the year. Must enjoy serving and coordinating hospitality.
FLAME (Friendship, Leadership, Acceptance, Ministry, Education)
FLAME is designed for high school teens who want to further their understanding and knowledge of the Catholic Christian faith in a small group setting. FLAME groups meet 20 times per year, from September to April, 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and are co-led by adult and peer leaders. We also have large-group evenings 4 times per year. 25 FLAME adult leaders and 50 peer ministers are needed.
Adult leaders must attend Catechist Training in September. We need a commitment of 20 Sunday evenings plus advance preparation for classes, participation in one retreat a year, and coordination of three Shared Experience events throughout the year. FLAME leaders are asked to make a two-year commitment.
Attendance callers are also needed.
Jr. High FAITH
Designed for 7th and 8th graders, these small groups meet on Sunday evenings, 4:00-7:00 p.m. to explore Catholic Church doctrine as well as relevant social issues. Small groups begin in September and end in April. 25 adult catechists are needed to co-lead small groups of 12-13 students.
All catechists need to attend Jr. High Catechist Training in September. Time Commitment is 20 Thursday evenings throughout the year, along with advance preparation for classes.
Attendance callers, as well as people to help with organization and set up are needed for periodic special events.
Peer Ministry
After Confirmation, we invite teens to serve in the parish community in any ministry that fits their gifts and needs. Many teens select Peer Ministry that involves teens ministering to teens through co-leading (with adults) small groups at FLAME, junior high, coordinating social events or involvement in the community at large through Justice and Service.
Attend monthly Peer Ministry formation gatherings.
Retreats
Retreats are offered at every grade level, 7th through senior year in high school. It is our belief that retreats are a great way to step back and take a look at things and listen to how God is speaking to us in our everyday lives.
Help with planning and coordination of retreats is needed.
Service, Justice and Peace
This group is a community of junior high and high school teens who, along with ministering adults, try to live out the Gospel message in service to others. Service projects have included Habitat for Humanity, PADS, social activities at Little City, and Assist-A-Family. Most activities are open to all teens; some may require a minimum age of 14 years old.
We are looking for teens and chaperones who have a desire to serve.
Adult chaperones are needed for trips.
Social Outings
Holy Family's social ministries for teens has been developed to help teens come to recognize Holy Family as their parish home. Several events/trips are planned each year. Previous activities have included trips to Great America, ski trips, movie nights and our March Madness basketball tournament.
Adult chaperones and mentors are needed for various events.
Teen and adult community leaders still needed to plan events. Leaders meet once/month.
Administrative Support
The Office of Youth Ministries has a need for individuals, who can devote a few hours each month to coordinate volunteer activities, assist with hospitality at events, help with photocopying, and filing papers.
Special Events
Holy Family's Youth Ministries hold several events throughout the year in order to raise funds to offset the cost of retreats and service opportunities. We need adults to help coordinate volunteers and assist with running the events. Annual events include the Christmas Wreath sale, and the St. Patrick's Day Dinner.
We need adult volunteers who can coordinate the event over several months, or who can offer assistance one time a year.
Teen Mass
There are many opportunities for Teens and Adults to become involved with the 4:00 p.m. Sunday liturgy (September-May).
We need proclaimers, Eucharistic ministers, Mass coordinators, hospitality members, teen band & choir members, as well as ushers. Please contact the Word & Worship Office for more details. |
