JP Congrats

We celebrate with our beloved Friar Johnpaul Cafiero this weekend.  In December of last year he marked 25 years of ordination as a Franciscan priest. JP began offering his insights and creativity here at Holy Family even before his ordination with talks and other presentations, so his presence with us stretches back many years. Even though he has moved to Parma, Ohio and joined the staff of Padua Franciscan High School there, he will continue to join us for Mass, weekend weddings and other events on a monthly basis.

With so many restrictions recently due to Covid we are just now able to celebrate with him.  He will preside at the 5:00pm Mass this weekend and we will have a reception following.

So many people in my time here and before have received inspiration and humor and a truly creative and articulate preaching style from JP, as well as his pastoral support and presence.  From his love of all things Wizard of Oz to his police chaplaincy and many missions and other presentations, we speak on behalf of the countless hearts that he has touched by saying, Thank You, JP and many, many more happy years of priestly service!

Building Closed

You probably don’t think a lot about the water supply to your home but it obviously important.  It is one of those big things that we might take for granted until it stops or is in some way impaired.  Our very large (144,000 square feet) campus is no different.

The construction taking place on the west side of our building near the Narthex entrance and including the office area is taking place to reroute and repair the main water supply to our entire building. Repairs have begun, but beginning this Sunday evening, October 10 and continuing through Friday, October 15 the building will be CLOSED. We will not be able to have morning Mass or any other activity during that time. Thank you for your patience and understanding.  Thanks also for your financial support that enables us to plan for unexpected expenses such as those needed for this project.  We must all be stewards of this great big beautiful campus because it takes a lot to operate it.

Pilgrimage Update

We encourage you to continue to prepare for our Adventures in Grace: a pilgrimage. This unique adventure is a result of our staff’s planning and response to a need for spiritual renewal in our community and beyond.  A pandemic has brought challenges such as separation and anxiety.  In the midst of anti-religious sentiment, global church challenges, political divisiveness, increased violence, racial tensions and many secular forces, I think we would all agree that we need to heighten our awareness of the grace that can be manifest when we become more aware of it and seek what it has to offer in these turbulent times.

This pilgrimage offers seven stops that include preaching on Sunday, Wednesday adventures of song, ritual and evocative presentations, additional virtual events and resources that will be provided to help you to experience a spiritual shot of inspiration.  The stops are the seven Sacraments, familiar to us, yet to be presented in a new and creative way.  My conviction is that a fresh, new approach to our Catholic, sacramental tradition has so much to offer us now.

I am asking you to take a risk and enter into the process of the pilgrimage. Perhaps gather a few companions to go on the journey with you.

No Volunteers, No PADS

For now, we will not be hosting PADS guests as we have pre-Covid.  Volunteers are needed and we simply don’t have enough. You can continue to assist us in our support of the homeless as we provide meals for them on Sunday evenings.  Please go to our website (holyfamilyparish.org). To get started click on the three horizontal lines beneath our logo on the Home Page, click on Human Concerns, then click on PADS.  You can then click on the carecalendar for more details.

Moorhead Mass

Just a reminder that we will remember long time parishioner Bill Moorhead at 9:00am Mass, Friday, October 22.
